Research Infrastructure
1.Central Research Facility, JIPMER
Central Research Facility (CRF)was started in the JIPMER International School of Public Health (JISPH)Building in March 2020. The CRF has metabolomics facility in the first floor and PCR, ELISA and other molecular facility at fourth floor of JISPH building, providing research facility to all the department of the institute. A committee comprising of following faculties has been formed to oversee and execute the functioning of the facility
- Rakhee kar, Professor and Head, Pathology. (Officer in Charge)
- Kadhiravan, Additional Professor, Medicine.
- Rahul Dhodapkar, Additional Professor, Microbiology.
Dr. P. Rajaa Muthu PhD, is the technical person who will help in standardizing and guiding the student with the research techniques in the laboratory. Candidates will have to perform their research work themselves after training. The following research facility/services are available in CRF, JIPMER

- Bioinformatics facility
A Bioinformatics facility has been established under the Central Research Facility, JIPMER, Pondicherry, to enhance innovation and research. The facility is located at the e-learning centre on the Second Floor of the JIPMER Academic Centre. It includes a bioinformatics workstation and a Project Technical Officer, who manages the bioinformatics work.
The facility's goal is to enhance fundamental, clinical, and translational research through the use of bioinformatics pipelines. The Bioinformatics Facility will analyse various data types and assist researchers in utilising omics data obtained from NGS studies for translational research to enhance patient care. The facility is working on standardised data processing pipelines for fundamental Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) investigations such as expression analysis, variant calling, and protein-DNA/RNA interactions.
Detailed downstream analysis of results and assistance with interpretation of results will be provided. Bioinformatics support is available for both basic research and clinical research.
- Central Animal House
The Central Animal House, JIPMER is a state-of-the-art animal research facility spread across five floors (G+4) with a total plinth area of 5604 square meters. The entire facility is centrally air-conditioned with an HVAC system, with a clean and dirty corridor concept. This building has individual space for different amenities such as imaging, small animal breeding, and experimentation (small and large animals). It also has research facilities for drug development, toxicological testing, laboratories for teaching and training for different departments with surgery rooms and demonstration rooms. The animal requirement will be catered by in-house breeding and stocking of high-quality animals (Rat, Mouse, Guinea pig, Hamster, Rabbit).
In the next phase, facilities for training in minimal invasive surgeries, Cath-lab, laparoscopic, endoscopic procedures, robotic surgeries, and innovative medical device testing using large animal models (Swine) will be established. The Central Animal House has been registered with CCSEA for conducting experiments on small animals. Soon the facility will be operational after the necessary approval(s) for the building.
- Grants facilitation office
Facilitation of registration to BioRRAP portal and various international funding opportunities (Era Commons id and SAM portal registration) is being done through the Division of Research. These details are available in the website.
- Software & services
Softwares required for the administration of research as well as those provided to individual faculty for aiding their activities are administered through the Research Division - eEc software, SFACTS and iTthenticate are being managed by the Research division. REDCap and Grammarly are maintained by the HIS sections.
