General Info :

The establishment of the department of ENT in JIPMER, Karaikal, was begun in February 2020. The department runs with guidance and coordination from the ENT department, JIPMER Puducherry. In 2021, The department, for the first time, commenced its academic commitment to teaching MBBS students.

Academics :

• MBBS

  The knowledge of common diseases and examination methods in the ear, nose and throat is vital for the complete training of MBBS graduates. The undergraduate students attend eight weeks of ENT clinical training and 50 lecture hours in the 6^th and 7^th semesters.

Research:

Each faculty mentors and guides an MBBS student each year in ICMR – STS student research activity and the GJ Strauss Institute UG research program.

Services :

• Clinical services

  The department runs its clinical services in the Government General Hospital in Karaikal in collaboration with the ENT department of GGH, Karaikal. The faculty and residents are actively involved in outpatient and inpatient care, elective surgery and emergency on-call duty in GGH.

  OPD Timings

  Monday to Friday: 8:30 to 1 pm

  Saturday: 8:30 -12 noon.

  Operation Theatre day: Thursdays. 2-4 major cases per OT day

  The commonly performed surgeries are tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, septoplasty, functional endoscopic sinus surgery, tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy. Other surgeries include micro laryngeal surgery, thyroidectomy, parotid and submandibular excision, thyroglossal cyst excision and tracheostomy.
