Out-Patient Services


The department is performing Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) for phenytoin, phenobarbitone, carbamazepine, cyclosporine and tacrolimus. During 2015-2016, 638 TDM assays have been performed. Urinary VMA assays are also carried out.

Undergraduate Courses

The department is training MBBS students, B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. MLT, B.Sc. Perfusion Technology, B.Sc. Dialysis Technology, B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology, B.Sc. Neurotechnology in both theoretical and practical aspects of pharmacology. MBBS students are also taught topics like essential medicines, pharmacovigilance, drug information services etc. The department also trains B.Sc., MLT interns. The sessional examinations for MBBS and B.Sc. MLT students include the Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE). All animal experiments are being replaced by clinical pharmacology exercises and also by teaching through Computer Assisted Learning (CAL).

Postgraduate Courses

Each year six MD students join the department. These students are trained in both theoretical and practical aspects of pharmacology. In addition, they are trained in pharmacogenomics techniques, adverse drug reaction (ADR) monitoring, drug information services and toxicology through seminars, journal clubs and PG classes. Five Ph.D., candidates join the department each year.
