Department of Orthopedic Surgery

The Department provides high expertise teaching and training to Undergraduates, Postgraduates, and paramedical students. We have an annual intake of 10 (5 every 6 months ) Post-graduate (M.S) students. We are committed to provide the best training to our residents. A well-stocked Departmental Library, along with a fully equipped simulation lab, having training stations with all bone models and full set of instruments and implants, aids this. The lab also has a state of the art arthroscopic simulation model (Arthromentor) with multiple knee and shoulder modules for trainees to practice. This along with a wide exposure to a large number of surgical procedures performed by the experts, ensures the resident trainees graduate with a high level of expertise and confidence.

A strong alumni also exists, who have been trained here since 1970,s. We have our Alumini members spread across Asia, United Kingdom and the United states. We organise alumini meet once a year with an aim of inspiring to our young trainees and proving them a unique opportunity to network with some of the best brains in the specialty.

Due to the advent of COVID era the opd and ward safety measures have been undertaken in utmost precision. Our department has been in active participation in COVID health care support throughout the year. The safety orientation has been given to our patients and its attendants periodically to prevent of COVID spread in the hospital premises.

Academics:

Active virtual interactive webinars are conducted regularly to teach and discuss academic, recent advances and research oriented topics with the residents. faculties actively conduct and participate in varies workshops for gaining knowledge and to refine clinical and surgical skills.

The Department regularly organizes focused short term training courses and workshops, which are open to participants from within and outside JIPMER. Cadaveric training programs are also conducted frequently in association with Department of Anatomy,.

The Department of Orthopaedics, at JIPMER is also one of the few nodal centers in the country offering American College of Surgeons Certified, Advanced Trauma and Life support (ATLS) Courses spread throughout the year.

The Department also conducts Basic Trauma Life support (BTLS) Training for Interns, and First Aid providers course for MBBS students each year.

We conduct regular intra/inter departmental morbidity and mortality meet.
