Postgraduate courses:

M.S. (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) – 3 years course; Intake is 10 students every 6 months
PG orientation programme is organized by the department for every new batch one month after admission. The Department runs a regular teaching program for postgraduates students on all weekdays (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm), which includes participation in journal clubs, symposium, maternal/perinatal mortality meetings and clinical case discussions. In addition practical training under supervision in the labour ward and operation theatres is also carried out.  

Peripheral postings include Radiodiagnosis, Anesthesia, Neonatology in 2nd semester and Radiotherapy in the 5th semester for one month each. They also attend special clinics in Infertility, Cancer, Colposcopy, Menopause, Post-natal, Obstetric medicine and Adolescent gynecology once a week.

Log book is Maintained

Formative assessment of the postgraduate students is performed on a regular basis. Interim review of dissertations is also done. Postgraduates are encouraged to attend a National and Regional conference. Basic life support (BLS) and Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) courses are mandatory for every postgraduate and these are being imparted in collaboration with department of Anesthesia.

Undergraduate courses

M.B.B.S. – The intake is 170 students per year undergraduate MBBS students are taught through bedside clinical classes, small group demonstrations and tutorials, and theory lectures from the 3rd to 9th semesters of study in addition to observation of operative techniques. They are posted in rotation to labour room in 8th and 9th semesters for 4 weeks where they acquire skills. During this time they also work in Eclampsia ICU and casualty. They maintain a record book and are required to conduct a minimum of 10 deliveries independently.

INTERNSHIP -They work in the department for a period of 2 months. They maintain a diary for their clinical work and are trained to perform tubectomy independently by the end of the posting apart from participating in delivering patient care in the OPD, Ward. They are also trained in writing the patient records and discharges.

MCH Gynecologic oncology: 3 year course

Fellowship courses:

Two year Fellowship courses in Obstetric medicine and Fetal medicine.

Other courses supported by the department

Theory and practical classes are also taken for the Emergency medical technician students, B.Sc./M.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. OT Technology students. Periodic evaluation is done by conducting theory as well as clinical tests
