LAUNDRY ACTIVITIES:

The department uses modern equipments for washing the soiled linen which is approximately 3600 kg/day. The following are the daily routine activities of JIPMER Laundry.

1. Collection of soiled & wet linen materials from various wards on alternate days, OTs and ICUs on daily basis, and OPDs on weekly basis.
2. Washing the soiled linen using hot steam and adding washing soda, bleaching powder, soap chips and Dettol. We are adding fabric whitener and fragrance liquid at the end of washing process.

1. The washed linen is shifted to drying yard for drying in the open sunlight. During rainy season, drying tumblers and drying chambers are used for drying the washed linen. The dried linen are collected and shifted to folding area for folding. After folding, the linen will be packed and distributed to various wards & OT’s at their doorstep.
2. In the folding area, torn linen is separated for stitching/ repair works and put back into circulation.

5. Centralised linen condemnation is being done on monthly basis in Laundry and the replacement is provided to the concerned wards/OTs/ICUs (through indents) from the Linen Section.
6. Laundry also provides services to the PHCs of JIPMER located at Ramanathapuram and Kuruchikuppam.

Quality monitoring:

1. Regular inspection by the Laundry Supervisors and Officer In-Charge.
2. Monitoring the entire washing process to ensure the quality of washed linen.
3. Regular maintenance of all the machines to ensure optimal performance.
4. Ensuring stipulated delivery times to various wards/OTs/ICUs/OPDs (as per schedule).
