Forensic Ballistics Examination Orientation Program for Postgraduate Resident Doctors
The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, JIPMER, for the first time under the leadership of Dr. Ambika Prasad Patra, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, collaborated with the Commandant, Smt. Rachna Singh, Puducherry Armed Police and Armory unit Head Mr. B. Ranganathan, Superintendent of Police (Police Training School), Pondicherry, started the Forensic Ballistics Examination Orientation Program for the Postgraduate MD-Forensic Medicine students of the department. The PG students completed a two-day practical orientation program on Interior Ballistics, Arms and Ammunition, relevant to Forensic Medicine.

The attendees acquired practical skills through interactive firearms orientation exercises. The curriculum encompassed various subjects, such as the structural components of firearms, different types of ammunition, and fundamental ballistics concepts. The event's effectiveness was enhanced by the enthusiastic involvement and genuine curiosity displayed by the junior resident doctors in attendance.
Mr. Ragavan R., a 2nd-year MBBS student under the guidance of The Team Forensic Medicine-JIPMER led by Dr Ambika Prasad Patra, Additional Professor & Head, Dr Mukesh, Assistant Professor, and Dr Karpora Sundara Pandyen, Junior resident, has received First Prize for the National e-poster competition paper titled “An Entangled Identity - Murder of Kurup or Chako?'
National-level e-poster competition on the landmark Forensic Cases related to Forensic Medicine & Toxicology with the theme - “Clue Chronicles: A Forensic Case Extravaganza” was organised by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Manipal Tata Medical College, University of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Jamshedpur.

Symposium of Clinical Forensic Medicine Orientation on Examination of Sexual Offence Cases
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, JIPMER, in collaboration with the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, successfully conducted an informative symposium titled "Clinical Forensic Medicine Orientation on Examination of Sexual Offence Cases" on 02-08-2024 at SSB Auditorium. The target audience comprised Faculty & Consultants, Resident Doctors from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Nursing Staff, and Medical Social Workers. Professor Dr. Gowri Dorairajan, Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Professor Dr. Haritha Sagili organized the session, employing a pragmatic approach. Upon invitation by the organizers, Dr. Ambika Prasad Patra, Additional Professor & Head, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, along with Assistant Professors, Dr. Naveen and Dr. Mukesh, contributed to the session as resource faculty. Hosted by Dr. Haritha Sagili, Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology, this orientation session provided a valuable learning experience for healthcare professionals in managing sexual offense cases with sensitivity, professionalism, and legal compliance. The resource faculty were subsequently honored by Professor Dr. Gowri Dorairajan and Professor Dr. Latha Chaturvedula.
The Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University has invited Dr Ambika Prasad Patra as the Guest of Honour to the Alumni Meet DDE CONNECT-2024 held on 10th February 2024 at Convention cum Cultural Centre, Pondicherry University, Govt. of India, Puducherry and Hon'ble Vice-chancellor of Pondicherry University Prof. K. Tharanikkarasu as the Chief Guest.
