Child psychiatry at JIPMER- past, present and future:

The child guidance clinic at JIPMER was started in the year 1969. In the initial years Dr Jayashankarappa, Dr Sudha Trivedi, Dr Gopinath, Dr Sadananda Unni and Dr Anjaiah had contributed significantly to the growth of child guidance clinic at JIPMER.
Over the past 4 decades, Prof Mahadevan has handheld the Child Psychiatry services and contributed significantly to its development. Since the time of his residency to his tenure as a senior Professor and Head of Department of Paediatrics as well as Dean Academics, JIPMER, his pioneering work, commitment and contribution has greatly influenced the clinical services, academic training and research work in the field of child psychiatry.
Under the guidance of Prof Mahadevan, the Department of Pediatrics has worked in close liaison with department of psychiatry and has facilitated in active screening, early identification and intervention of neurodevelopmental disorders in young children as well as effective management of behavioural and emotional disturbances in children.
To address the lack of specialist in this field in India, Prof Mahadevan planned and executed initiation of speciality training in child psychiatry at JIPMER. The post-doctoral fellowship course in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry was started in 2017 under his guidance.We dedicate this webpage to him to thank him for his enormous contribution.
