Laurels for Dept of Psychiatry at ANCIPS 2017

Dr Vikas Menon, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, won the prestigious Bombay Psychiatric Society Silver Jubilee Award at the 69th Annual National Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) held at Raipur, Chattisgarh from January 5th-8th, 2017. For this award, the best papers from the five zones of the national body (Indian Psychiatric Society) get nominated and compete for the eventual award where 60% of marks is for manuscript preparation and 40% for platform presentation.The paper was titled “Efficacy of adjunctive single session counseling for medically unexplained symptoms: A randomized controlled trial”. It was co-authored by Dr Shanmuganathan B and Dr Siddharth Sarkar, Senior Residents, Dept. of Psychiatry.

Dr Vikas Menon, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, also won the Poona Psychiatrists Association Award-I, for best published paper in the assessment year by a fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society. The paper was titled “Barriers to Health Care Seeking among medical students” and was published in the Postgraduate Medical Journal.This paper was co-authored by Dr Siddharth Sarkar, ex-Senior Resident, Dept. of Psychiatry and Dr Santosh Kumar, former Senior Professor, Dept. of Urology, JIPMER.

Dr Nivedhitha Selvakumar, Final year Junior Resident, won the Dr KC Dube Poster Award-I for her MD dissertation paper titled “Efficacy of twice weekly text message reminders on medication adherence in Bipolar Disorders:A randomized controlled trial”. The paper was co-authored by Dr Vikas Menon (Guide) and Dr Shivanand Kattimani (co-guide).
