Department of Pharmacy is one of the important ancillary services, earlier called Dispensary traces its origin in 1823 in the Medical School called “Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry” established by the French Government. In 1956, the Govt. of India took over the medical school and was called Dhanvantary Medical College. Then the medical college was renamed as JIPMER. The Department of Pharmacy is situated in the first floor of Pharmacy block with 1. Pharmacy Office, 2.Tablets Store 3. Injection Store 4. I.V. Fluids & Medical Gas Store 5. Chemicals store 6. Surgical & Disinfectant Stores.
The Out Patients Dept. Pharmacy is situated on the ground floor of the main OPD block equipped with six dispensing counters. The Staff and Students Health Clinic Pharmacy (SSHCP) is situated near the OPD Pharmacy. The Preparation and Analysis wing of the Pharmacy is situated near the OPD Pharmacy.
The Super Specialty Pharmacy is situated on the ground floor of the Super Specialty block with six dispensing counters and a sub store for issue of IV fluids and surgical dressings.
